Waterlinks has been installed in different locations around the world. The project was inspired by a residency at Parihaka, a Maori Village in New Zealand. The installation includes individual hand-made hanging artworks created by Ava Werner (an American painter and mixed-media artist). These artworks are created using imagery and histories related to water. There is a question on the back of each card, and participants are encouraged to answer that question giving a video diary submission at the event or they can answer the question by writing their answer on the back of the card and re-hanging the card in the installation. They can take a work of art to keep once they have made a contribution to the project. The videos are collected and made into video works by Jim Werner.
